Teaching ideas & a new Blog! :)

I'm so blessed to work with a wonderful group of people & to have amazing educator friends who are so willing to share their great ideas.  One of those incredible friends is my very my best friend in the world.  She has taught me so much about teaching and technology... I don't know what I'd do without her.

She just started her own blog at Ed Tech Depot & I'm excited to see where it takes her.  Check it out and watch the Carol of the Christmas Pickle while you're there... you'll laugh, I promise.

Then... check out this site that she just shared with me:

There are literally TONS of great ideas & websites here that are incredibly valuable.  Hang out and explore it a bit.  You're sure to find something you can use.

FREE Snoman Clippie! :)

Ok, I realize that this is news to you, (unless you really know me) but I am AN (I left out the word "an."  Don't you hate typos you don't notice until somebody points it out? LOL) addict when it comes to clipart and fonts!  I absolutely ♥ everything cutesy froo froo when it comes to that digital goodness!  I know, it's a shocker.

And, I also love to draw & paint.  Again, a shocker if you already know me.  However, I have lost the pen to my digital drawing tablet (BOO!) and a new one is in the mail so until it arrives, I'm making clipart by drawing on paper & scanning it in or using the mouse to draw in my favorite drawing/painting/creating program.  My bestie and I are beginning a new venture, and until it gets up and running for real, I am practicing and playing with clipart and fonts.  Can you say, "I'm in Heaven?!"

So... since little snowman is my first official clippie artie you can have him for free!  Just click on over to Teachers Pay Teachers and download your zipped file of goodies.

Sheppard Software ...so fun! :)

We've been learning about good nutrition this week and we found a great website that had us all rolling in laughter while sorting different foods into their appropriate groups!

Sheppard Software has an incredible site jam packed with fun games that the kiddos had a ball with today.  Nearly everybody wanted me to write the address down so they could play on the site at home.  I love when they do that!  These are some serious techno-munchkins and I adore them!

We actually found that the nutrition game we played was easier to do on the SMARTboard so if you have an interactive white board or a Mimio, it is perfection for interactive classroom fun!

Check out this site and play around with the kiddos.  You're sure to have a great time!

Writing Pack Freebie :)

Okay, so the sweet Munchkins have been deprived of paper.  We are already running low on construction paper, Ms. Jennifer has hogged up the copy paper, and we have already run out of manilla paper.  I think they eat paper.  But they love to write and they absolutely love to create things!  How can I deny them that creative outlet?  They need it!  So, in an effort to provide them with more writing tools (along with plenty of blank paper, and colored construction/manilla paper I purchased over the Thanksgiving break) I made this little pack of writing paper

Included is a page for writing postcards, creating lists, and writing a letter to someone special.  I started using these just before the break and I must say they are a hit!  They especially love the lists and remind me whenever I ask them to help me remember something, that I should make a list and then hand me one of these.  I love it!

The graphics are the always adorable DJ Inkers and the fonts are from the ever so lovely Hello Fonts by Jen Jones.  Grab your copy from the links and then hop over to Jen's site on TPT and grab a commercial license if you want to use her adorable fonts in commercial work.  They print up beautifully!

Thank you!  Have a great week after Thanksgiving!

Independent Learning & a Freebie :)

"Ms. Jennifer, I'm done!  What do I do now?"  I tell them, "I don't like the words 'I'm done.'  What do you think you can do?"  Usually, they laugh and tell me all about the "Can Do's" that they already know they can work on when all their work is complete.  We have lists and anchor charts & activities all over the place!  However, I still have munchkins that are ready for more.

These anchor charts are out with our Daily 5 choices and kiddos know that they can choose whatever option they like so long as they are finished with their "Must Do's."  In the empty boxes, I write short lists of ideas (or a story problem for math).  They seem so grown up moving around the room working on the things they love!  Sometimes it can appear to be a little too busy or disorganized but the kiddos are always working on something that is meaningful.

I want so badly to include some higher level independent learning activities for the munchkins this year.  I've got some brilliant out of the box thinkers and they often create things that I wish I'd thought of first.  I'm going to try and incorporate this plan sheet that I created last year.  We never got around to even introducing it, but this year I really think they are ready.

So... cross your fingers and put your game face on!  I really think they will come up some amazing ideas.  Their build in choices are:  write, create, research, and solve.  And then there's an open spot where they can come up with their own.  Then they need to tell me the materials that they need and draw me a picture of their plan.  Once I approve it, they can set off on their own!  I think they will rock it.

Grab your free copy here.  :)

♥ Have a wonderful week! ♥

Word Building :)

I think I'm getting the hang of first grade!  It took about the first 6 weeks but here we are.  :D  A little something I've started that the kids absolutely love is our "Word Building" through the week activities.  We do certain activities on each day of the week.  I'm sure we will change them up as time goes on, but for now they are so happy it's funny!  On Friday, they did some incredible word art (turned into more art than words, but I am NOT stopping them from getting crazy creative) and had a blast after soldiering through the Friday assessments.

I'm so proud of these firsties!  I'll try to remember to post some pics of their word art this week. Most of them were so in love with their creations, that they took them home before I managed to snap a picture.  I didn't have the heart to say no.
